Episode Transcription

So contemplate, this are you ‘when-ing’,

and ‘then-ing’ and what we mean by that is,

are you saying to yourself innocently,

I'll be happy ‘when’ or I can hardly wait until I finish this because if you're ‘when-ing and ‘then-ing’,

you're not ‘now-ing’

Hello and welcome to Friday Night Live. Thats my radio station voice!

Do a radio station voice! Say. ‘welcome to Hawaii FM’

Hello welcome to Hawaii FM

That's good. That's real good! Brought to you by  Rudi and Jules.

Hi, welcome to Friday night live. Is that any good? No!

Hi, welcome to Friday Night Live.

It's not Friday and it's not live,

but were alive and you could be watching it on a Friday.

Anyway, we're talking about today. Today.

We're going to talk about being happy now.

How many people who are listening or watching this innocently puts off living life,

being happy doing stuff? Because they think they need to do this.

This, this, this and this.

I'll be happy when I finish work.  I can relax

when the kids are at school.

I can go on holiday.

When I'm retired. I can,  I just want to get my bookkeeping and accounts done,

I need to post that.

I need to get back to my email. Then I can be happy.

How many of you guys done that? We have just done a practicum

with our facilitator students they presented

for three days and some of the students were kind of talking a little bit around this

and I kind of realize,

even though I teach this, I'm a massive hypocrite,

which is fine because this is the wholeness of us.

That. Yeah, I'm kind of putting off,

contentment and happiness to a degree. Because I kind of think when I do this,

then that will happen. Right? And Claire,

Claire said that you have this,

there isn't a Finish Line. The finish line is in your backpack,

on you and you're always at it,

but you think it's over there. So you think? Well, if I can just get there,

I'll be happy, but then when we get there,

There's like another there and yet there but there's another there.

So there's this constantly chasing this peace of mind,

this happiness. This we call it ‘then-ing’.

and ‘when-ing’. What will happen if you just stop chasing it and just go ahhh! There's only this moment,

right? So contemplate,

this are you when-ing’?

And ‘then-ing’ and what we mean by that is,

are you saying to yourself innocently,

I'll be happy when, or I'll be happy,

then I can hardly, wait, until I finish this.

Because if you're when-ing and then-ing

you're not now now-ing!,

the potential is we could be now-ing

as we're when-ing and then-ing what I mean by that is we could live now.

Do stuff that makes us feel alive now.

I Follow this inner brilliance and resilience and creativity.

Now as we're working towards a future ‘then’

but don't think that you're going to get something then.

Because there is this whole space it could be weeks,

months, or years of your life. You've been walking towards the ‘then’ thinking that then I'll be happy.

What I mean is how about we actually live life

and enjoy life and do what we love doing and create things.

And but as we're walking towards a ‘then’

because we're carrying it with us because there isn't like Claire was saying, there isn't  a finish Line.

It's like those that Athletics track,

you know, it goes. Around it's like people running thinking.

Okay, this tracks going to come to an end any minute and well

it doesn't it just keeps going round.

So are we going around and around in life?

Not doing what you want to do, not hanging out who want to hang out with not

fulfilling our life desires because of a possible future then - you could die.

Other people could die. Like you,

you might never do the ‘then’ or the ‘when’,

but you have now and now is the only time you get to feel how you want to feel not a ‘then’

Yeah, whether we like it or not.

We're living life with a perpetual ‘now’ it moves along with us.

It's and we innocently,

forget, we innocently.

when, and then and embracing that natural perpetual dance of life that we inevitably contract,

and expand and there's grittiness and messiness and everything that goes along with it,

but there's also birthing a beautiful love and compassion and and this sublimeness of life.

And it's seems to be more rich when we embrace that now.

The nowness of it. Yeah,

like we went to the beach spontaneously and I was sitting right,

we live in Hawaii for God's sake. I was sitting by the beach,

our son, Seth was in the water and all I could think of was when I get home I am going to eat,

because I'm hungry, and I caught myself ‘when-ing’.

And I thought for goodness sake, Rudi. Where are you?

And I close my eyes. I don't know if you've closed your eyes with a tree swaying with the,

with a sunny, you kind of get these beautiful,

Shadows going over your eyes, and I could hear the wind I was like ‘this moment is perfect’.

Just as it is, he abso-freakin'-lutely.

We trade in for a future then that doesn't even exist.

You don't have to freaking be in Hawaii. You could be anywhere! Last night

i’m  watching these videos of this amazing human.

I have no idea who he is. I saw on YouTube film in our neighborhood.

filming, all of these exquisite waterfalls in this seafoam green clearwater and surfers and palm

trees and beautiful rainforest and I'm just like watching this going.

Wow, and I say there's our house right there.

There's our house right there. How many times already have?

We gone to town and back and town and back and in any going to town and back,

we were when-ing and then-ing we need to go to town because we need to do this.

And then we need to go do this and overlooking,

all the beauty that's in our own, tiny little neighborhood.

It's just mental, really is.

So, yeah, we just want to invite you to to take some time.

and contemplate, zoom out bring forth an awareness of ‘am I being present?’

Yeah, and one last point,

it's it's not where you are,

because we're talking a lot about Hawaii.

It's not where you are geographically .

It's Where you are,

where you are, I've been on the London Underground.

I remember rush hour. You haven't experienced this yet.

But well, this is before covid,

obviously, but there's loads of people and there's this big guy.

and his armpit was in my face as I was holding on and I was crushed and I was,

and there's this real presence and bliss in that moment,

it's not a physical thing. It's a non-physical surrendering to the moment.

Absolutely. Absolutely.

Because it's the thoughts that we seem to carry along with us the beliefs

that everything that is stuffed into our backpack.

That's what we're living. We're living in our backpack.

I remember being homeless. Yes,

and living in my car briefly,

but having an expansive experience that zoomed out.

Zoomed out to this present moment.

An awareness of just how beautiful life is right now.

A dropping away of all of the worries

and thoughts that we inevitably innocently carry along with us.

and knowing that when we do that again because, I will,  do it again,

that, that's okay, too. Yeah,

that's part of the human experience. So,

Coming to an end. I've said this before once,

but take your shoes off and go and feel the Lush wet grass under your feet.

Like, I don't know. Like when you're walking feel

for the fences you walk past for the vibrations on your fingertips,

like close your eyes.

If you want to train and obviously not if you're driving,

but close your eyes, if you want to train. And yes,

listen hear the sounds like your happiness is now.

It's not in a then It's now,

so stop waiting to live and live.

Now, as you walk towards a future when it's now.

It's now, it's now, right?

So true Rudi and even on those rainy days.

When it's pouring outside. Close your eyes and listen to the sound of the rain on your roof.

Open the window and smell the freshness.

Of the rain. Is it washes away and cleans the plants and grass and nourishes  the soil

Yeah, like nothing has to change for everything to be different its all an inside job.

It's not where you are. It's where you are.

Hmm. Okay.

So, please please,

please subscribe and ring the bell.

So you can get notifications of our next Friday Night Live

and let us know what you'd like us to talk about.

And also we've started at home with Rudi and Jules on Instagram,

so it's behind the scenes of our life and it's uncut and it's not edited.

I mean maybe there's a title, but it shows like us cooking or our pet kind of like reality.

Yeah, it's he of our lives,

really, and your lives actually. Yeah,

yes. So we'll look forward to seeing you on the next live.

Bye for now. Bye.
